National Committee on Biotechnology (CNB)
The National Committee on Biotechnology (CNB) was established by Art. 4 of Decree No. 6041, issued in February 2007. This Committee coordinates the implementation of the Biotechnology Development Policy (PDB), aiming at the development of the Brazilian industry and the use of biotechnology by society.
Currently the committee is composed of 21 members from different spheres of the federal government, with representatives from the President’s Cabinet and the Ministries of Industry, Health, Science and Technology, responsible for its coordination, Agriculture, Environment, Education, Agrarian Development, Justice, Defense, and Fisheries & Aquaculture. Besides those, representatives from the National Patent Body (INPI), National Sanitary Agency (ANVISA), National Commission on Research (CNPq), National Company on Agriculture Research (Embrapa), National Bank of Development (BNDES), R&D Financing Agency (FINEP), Post-degree courses Agency (CAPES), Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), National Metrology and Accreditation Body (INMETRO) and National Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), that performs its Secretariat, there also participate in it.
